In-service workshops help teachers develop the skills necessary to use movement as a tool to teach the core curriculum. Through the creative process, teachers will study the elements of dance and learn how to incorporate them into their teaching.
RDT is pleased to offer three workshops that meet with the Utah State Office of Education's new vision for teacher professional development ... Infinity Workshops
This is an exciting, comprehensive approach to expanding your teaching skills for dance. Each of the three At the Core sessions will coincide with an RDT concert. These pre-concert workshops relate directly to the content and choreography of the performances. You will have the opportunity to see what was discussed in the workshops put into direct action. Then you have the chance to put it into action too!

Repertory Dance Theatre’s three workshops will focus on the State Core Curriculum for dance (modern dance technique, repertory, composition, improvisation, partnering, lighting & production, music and dance history). Each will concentrate on the choreography featured in the corresponding performances.

Mini-residencies offer a variety of activities in 4-5 hours of in-school service. Lecture demonstrations, movement classes and teacher in-service workshops are designed to reach the entire school population.
RDT offers in-depth residencies that make a long-term commitment to a school or district. Activities are designed to fulfill the needs or long term goals of the school and to apply standards of the core curriculum.
"Informances" are narrated performances that focus on the history of dance, the choreographic process and the art of improvisation. Demonstrations give the audience insight into how to watch, appreciate and even create dances. They stress the importance of training a dancer, an artist, and an athlete including discipline, good health habits, practice and perseverance. The teachers receive preparatory information and are asked to organize discussions after the presentation to allow students to share their reactions and to ask questions. Each demonstration includes the creation of a new piece of choreography by volunteer members of the audience and RDT dancers.
JUMP (Juniors Understanding Movement Potential) creative links the art form of modern dance as a viable alternative for youth in seeking accessible career options to dance performance, non-profit administration and technical theater. Student partners (Grades 7 - 12) get a "JUMP start" for their futures through volunteerism, community service and hands-on experience.
- Administrative Internships/Job Shadowing: Internships are available after school in the RDT business office on a year-round basis and backstage during limited production periods.
- Day in the Rose Fieldtrips: By special arrangment with RDT's artistic director, a student group and their teachers are invited into the RDT studio to watch the rehearsal process and to participate in a movement class led by an RDT company member.
- Summer Workshops: Three 2-day high school dance workshops (usually in August) are available for all area high school dance companies. Each offers the students the opportunity to work closely with professional artists.
- Connections Concert: On a year-round basis, RDT dancers may be engaged as choreographers, movement specialists and artists-in-residence to perform a variety of artistic services in schools (K-12). At the end of each academic year, RDT hosts a two evening concert called Connections in which high school dance companies are invited to perform choreography by RDT dancers. Students are involved in all production and promotional aspects of Connections including program coordination, box office/group ticket sales, elementary technical requirements and performance.
