Repertory Dance Theatre

This summer, RDT’s Community School is excited to announce a unique summer sampler series featuring two styles of dance new to our school — Bollywood and Ballroom dance!

We recently sat down with our Bollywood teacher, Raksha Karpoor, and were soon delighted with her excitement about bringing this very unique and culturally specific style of dance to our community. Bollywood is the informal name given to the popular Mumbai-based Hindi language film industry in India. Bollywood dancing is one of the hottest dances around! It is the foundation of every great Indian Bollywood film. The dances are a fusion of traditional and classical indian dances with the influence of some jazz, bhangra, hip-hop and modern dance. Timing, rhythm, energy, and sharp controlled expressive movements are the important elements of Bollywood dance!

Raksha is a trained Indian classical (Bharatanatyam) dancer and has learned for over 16 years. She has also studied Bollywood along with performing and teaching extensively in India. Additionally, she has performed in Salt Lake City and taught dance company students at Salt Lake Community College.

We are also pleased to be utilizing one of our long-time company members, Tyler Orcutt, as we introduce ballroom dancing.  Tyler has a great spirit, is a phenomenal dancer (as many of you may well know!), and is incredibly eager to teach this art form.  The greatest thing about this summer class is that there is no partner requirement! You can learn just as well in couples or in singles.

Mark your calendars now! Both classes will taking place once per week in July.  Bollywood is on Tuesday nights, starting on July 5th and ending July 26th.  Ballroom classes will be on Saturdays, starting on July 9th and ending on July 30th.

Drop in for a class for $10 or take all 4 classes for only $35!

We hope to see you there!
