Salt Lake County Arts & Culture has extended its venue closures through June 30, 2020.
Classes are designed at a "pay what you can" rate. We realize these are difficult times for everyone, including our teachers. We want to be able to pay our teachers for their time and effort, and in order to do so we will need to charge a minimal fee for classes.

RDT's Dance Center on Broadway (formerly the RDT Community School) began in 1994 as an extension of Repertory Dance Theatre's dedication to the creation, development, awareness and understanding of the art of modern dance.
RDT's Dance Center offers a wide range of classes for adults (ages 16+) on evenings and weekends. Classes are designed on a "drop-in" basis so no pre-registration or long-term commitment is required. Teachers work with students at every level and no previous dance experience is expected.
Students can drop in for $12 per class or purchase a 10-class punch card for $100, which is good for every class on the schedule, except Flamenco.

Explore the fundamentals of Ballet technique through a friendly, relaxed environment. This basic ballet class will be tailored to the level of all students while developing strength, flexibility, artistry, and coordination. Tights, leotard, and ballet tights are not required, but socks are suggested.
Bollywood is the informal name given to the popular Mumbai-based Hindi language film industry in India. Bollywood Dancing is one of the hottest dances around! It is the foundation of every great Indian Bollywood film. The dances are a fusion of traditional and classical indian dances with the influence of some jazz, bhangra, hip-hop and modern dance. Timing, rhythm, energy, and sharp controlled expressive movements are important elements of Bollywood.
This energetic class uses an eclectic mix of music, from R&B to house to pop and teaches dancers hip-hop movements, musicality and technique while also working on rhythm, precision, and muscle memory.
Using basic modern technique and the exploration of various movement styles, students will increase flexibility, strength, and coordination. This joyful movement experience is open to people of all ages and dance backgrounds.
Intermediate-to-advanced modern dance class.
A faster-moving experience with West African and Congolese movement styles taught in an exciting and nurturing atmosphere to live drumming.
Open to everyone 40 years of age and over. Increase creativity, fitness and longevity through movement. Throughout the session, instructors will integrate an eclectic variety of movement styles.
Flamenco consists of three artistic elements: the cante (singing), the guitarra (guitar) and the baile (dance). The dancer physically interprets the emotion of the singer and guitar is through his or her movements, which include percussive footwork and intricate hand, arm, and body movements. The relationship between the artists is similar to that of jazz where there is a basic structure that one must follow, but at its heart, it is an improvised form.
BEGINNING CLASS (Tuesdays 5:30-7:00)
Technique: Beginning braceo (arms), footwork, palmas, body postures, rhythms for 4, 6 and some 12 count songs. Choreographies taught in this class are: Tangos (lively song and dance featuring great movement and footwork) and one of the four verses of Sevillanas (partner dance, but there is no need to bring a partner). You may register for the whole session OR drop-in to each class.
INTERMEDIATE CLASS (Wednesdays | 7:20 pm - 8:50 pm)
Technique: Intermediate technique including turns, remates, footwork, hand gestures, palmas, and upper body work. Rhythms for intermediate level 4, 6 and 12 count songs. Depending on the choreography taught during the session, it includes instruction on the use of castanets, shawls and fans. Registration required.
WHAT TO WEAR
SHOES: Hard heeled shoes or boots, preferably flamenco shoes, “folklorico” shoes or boots, or character shoes. For flamenco shoes and boots from Spain check flamencoshoes.com, menkes.es, or esflamenco.com
Women: A long, full, flowing skirt. You can buy practice skirts at riversedgedancewear.com, or onstagedancewear.com.
Men: Long pants, and flamenco or “folklorico” boots.
Classical Modern will be geared to educate the moving body, using the foundational pillars that have been developed in over the last century of modern dance. Students can expect to be challenged with fundamental ideals from Graham, Horton, Limon and Cunningham techniques.
GREY MATTERS: Dance for Parkinson's and for older adults. Dance and movement class to help balance and mobility for adults living with chronic or age related conditions. Grey Matters is reaching to a broader population with creative management for chronic and age related conditions beyond Parkinson's disease. Caretakers of participants are welcome.
The class is designed with exercises in seated and standing positions. The class progresses with dances that emphasize coordination, balance, strength, flexibility, and agility, while stimulating the mind with creativity and imagery as a form of alternate symptomatic therapy.
Each class will be $5 for the patient. Caregivers and guests will be free. You can pay per class or purchase a 10 class punch card for $50.
Parkour is a non-competitive physical discipline of training originating from France. Practitioners aim to move freely over or through existing city environments using running, jumping, climbing, and quadrupedal movements. It is a discipline that invites self-improvement by revealing one’s physical and mental limits while simultaneously offering ways to overcome them. This parkour class will focus on the basics of parkour movement and safety. Class will be held outside so we advise bringing clothes that you are comfortable moving around in and wear long pants. Bringing a personal water bottles is also advised. This class is open to ages 10+
