RDT honors the artistry and vision of Jose Limon whose work has been a part of our repertory since 1967.
Limon’s two choreographic masterpieces feature live music through collaborations with the Salt Lake Vocal Artists (conducted by Dr. Brady R. Allred) and Gina Bachauer International Piano Foundation.
The Company will pair an acquisition/re-staging of "Mazurkas" with "Missa Brevis," the latter performed by RDT and guest dancers from the University of Utah, which hosted RDT from 1966 to 1992. Limon choreographed both works in 1958 after touring Europe. Limon’s stirring choreography depicts an indomitable humanity rising up after near destruction following World War II.
The Limon/Chopin “Mazurkas” will be performed with pianist, Vassily Primakov, Gina Bachauer Piano Silver Medalist, and internationally known Chopin interpreter.
The powerful score by Zoltan Kodaly for “Missa Brevis” will feature the Salt Lake Vocal Artists and organist Brian Mathias, conducted by Dr. Brady R. Allred, with guest dancers from the University of Utah.
