Repertory Dance Theatre performs an evening of high energy, humor, and drama!

Festival Dance is pleased to welcome Utah’s Repertory Dance Theatre (RDT) for an evening performance featuring works showcasing great athleticism, beauty and innovation.  We invite you to join these brilliant dancers as they present an exciting mix of audience favorites, featuring a variety of dances filled with high energy, humor and drama.  RDT will perform selections from "The Mazurkas," first presented by the Jose Limon Dance Company in 1958 to pay tribute to the heroic spirit of the Polish people in their revival after World War II; selected works by Michio Ito, who brought about the literary, musical, and artistic breakthroughs of modernism, and the eclectic beginnings of American modern dance; "Something About Night," with choreography by Lar Lubovitch, whose motivation was a desire to be quiet and the quieting of the mind; and "Outdoors," a contemporary, tribalistic, pattern-piece filled with quirky invention and laced with rhythmic humor by choreographers Noa Zuk and Ohad Fishof.  The University of Idaho Dance Ensemble also will present a piece choreographed by RDT's Nicholas Cendese.  RDT is celebrating 57 years of dance and remains committed to building bridges of understanding that de-mystify the art of dance.

September finds RDT beginning its touring season with residencies in Moscow and Sandpoint, Utah. From Monday, September 18th through Friday, September 22nd, the Company will be in residency at the University of Idaho in Moscow, presented by the University and by Idaho Festival Dance.  RDT Artistic Associate, Nick Cendese will be on campus for the full week, setting new choreography on U of I student dancers (to be included in the public performance on Friday), as well as teaching various movement classes in the Department of Dance.  The entire Company will join Nick on Wednesday, the 19th, to offer movement classes, along with lecture demonstrations in high schools in Potlatch and Lapwai. In addition to the public performance, RDT will offer a fully-produced student matinee, “JOURNEY”, in the theatre for area schools.
