ROSE WAGNER - LEONA WAGNER BLACK BOX THEATRE
An evening-length interdisciplinary performance incorporating dance, interactive projections, and live poetry to tell the story of the Great Salt Lake from where it begins in the mountains to its final resting place in the bed of the ancient Lake Bonneville. Created in collaboration with local ecosystems, this movement journey flows from source to shore through glaciers, rivers, wetlands, and ancestral oceans. Find yourself immersed in the story and add your voice to the dialogue exploring the current state of our local waters through interactive moments of reflection. In the context of the challenges that face the Great Salt Lake and all life around it, this performance will offer a creative response that cultivates hope, community, and the possibility for adaptation, appropriate for all ages.
Kara Komarnitsky grew up in Salt Lake City, Utah, and recently graduated with her BFA in Dance at Ohio State University with minors in Environmental Science and Business. In 2018 Kara received the Sterling Scholar Award for Dance for the greater Salt Lake City area as well as the Outstanding Student Choreography Award at the Utah High School Dance Festival. Most recently she has performed with the Interdisciplinary Arts Collective, Myriad Dance Company, Fem Dance Company, and Repertory Dance Theatre. Her work approaches the complexity of human interconnection with the planet, pulling inspiration from the natural world and environmental research. While her primary medium is dance, Kara regularly uses projections, film, sound, and interactive technology to create immersive performance experiences. Her piece Tales of the Deep (2017) won third place in the Midwest Climate Summit’s Climate Stories Competition and her thesis, Interconnect (2022), received an Honorable Mention at the OSU Denman Research Forum 2022. Other places her work has been presented includes the OSU Student Concert, OSU BFA Showcase, the Ohio Dance Festival Professional Concert, and the Illuminate Salt Lake Festival.

RDT’s LINK Series is an outreach program offering independent choreographers the opportunity to present their work in performance. RDT provides infrastructure and advisory support for production and marketing while allowing the choreographer to retain artistic autonomy.
