A celebration of one of modern dance’s great champions: Linda C. Smith, RDT’s Director Emerita and the leader behind RDT’s six remarkable decades. This concert launches RDT’s multi-year Honoring Linda C. Smith initiative, which will explore, document, and celebrate her transformative contributions to RDT, to the art form, and to Utah.
At the heart of LUMINARY is a new full-company commission by Ihsan Rustem, the Swiss-based choreographer whose works have been commissioned by Nederlands Dans Theater 2, Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, São Paulo City Ballet, and dozens of international companies. Rustem's new work will open this multi-year celebration, giving movement and meaning to a legacy that has shaped professional modern dance in Utah for more than six decades. Also on the program: José Limón’s Concerto Grosso (1945) — RDT’s very first major choreographic acquisition — and Noa Zuk & Ohad Fishof’s Outdoors, offering contemporary counterpoint to the season’s historical richness.
