RDT’s spring season concert offers a new choreographic commission by Yusha-Marie Sorzano, a relentless, dynamic artist originally from the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago. Her new creation will be presented alongside crowd-favorite Hallelujah Junction by Ihsan Rustem (2021), and the re-staging of a Lar Lubovich classic Marimba (1978).
- Yusha-Marie Sorzano - Solfège (world-premiere)
- Reveals a community of beings who will captivate your imagination with sirenesque movement that is bewitching, enchanting, captivating and dazzling.
- Lar Lubovitch - Marimba (1976)
- Marimba is a trance-dance. It has a mystical sense of evolution and begins with the dancers coursing toward some unseen destination in slow motion. Lubovitch’s highly musical movement vocabulary appears as effortless to dance as it is beautiful to watch. The minimalist music and movement have a mesmerizing effect. Marimba has been called a hypnotic dance.
- Ihsan Rustem - Hallelujah Junction (2021)
- Hallelujah Junction premiered November 2021 and capitalized on the strength of our dancers who were captivated by the optimism and “breathless abandon” of Ihsan’s movement. He gave us assurance that dance was just what we all needed to restore our equilibrium. The music by John Adams added to a collaboration that lifted our spirits and our confidence. Hallelujah Junction is filled with joy.
