A stirring celebration of the trailblazers who shaped modern dance in America. This evocative program showcases RDT’s signature ability to bridge past and present, preserving the legacy of modern dance while bringing it vividly to life for new generations.
Experience the Utah premiere of Martha Graham’s "Dark Meadow Suite" (1948)—a riveting exploration of renewal and memory through Graham’s iconic and expressive movement language. Witness the return of José Limón’s "Concerto Grosso" (1945), a masterwork of musicality and form that marked RDT’s first major choreographic acquisition in 1967.
The program culminates with Helen Tamiris’ rarely performed "Dance for Walt Whitman" (1961)—created in honor of Virginia Tanner and restaged as a powerful tribute to RDT’s roots at the University of Utah. Featuring 15 guest performers from the University’s Department of Dance, this historic reconstruction honors our 1966 founding and reaffirms our enduring commitment to preserving the voices and visions of modern dance pioneers.
Join us as we honor the artistry, courage, and innovation that continue to shape the future of dance.
